Tweeen, yet another (FREE) ActionScript 3.0 tweening engine

Ok, just to make it fast, Green Socks tweenlite has a REALLY sweet syntax and performance wise it is the best so far, but on the downside, it cannot be used in commercial products without actually buying a license for it. The license itself is quite expensive, 150$/year but some may argue that the product worths every penny. If you are like me, and started using TweenLite without seeing the price tag of the pseudo-free product, you may want to look into this (Tweeen 1.0).

  What it offers:

-it is completly FREE, even for commercial products

-syntax identical with the one in TweenLite (therefor it is a piece of cake to move from TweenLite to Tweeen)

-it also offers half the performance of TweenLite (as tested with Green Sock’s test tool) but should be about the same as other FREE tweening engines

-it uses Flash’s fl.transitions(for now) so without any update on my side, there may be significat speed gains on new releases of the player, hopefully at least.. also, the footprint is quite small, less than 2 KB in the published filed.

-a promise on my side that I will keep this updated, as long as I will (try) to earn money using flash

As a side note, if some of you played with GreenSock’s test tool and found out that Adobe’s Tween class crashes the player, I can assure you that this not the case with this engine.

until next jar refill,

dw
